Narratives

Paul Klee

Paul Klee, who taught form to the Bauhaus weaving students, was Anni’s “god.” She found him personally distant—she often said that he reminded her “of St. Christopher with the weight of Jesus on his shoulders”—and said that on the one occasion when she and Josef went to the Klees’ house for a social visit, Paul and Lily Klee (he on violin, she on piano) played music by Bach and Mozart and there was little conversation, but both Anni and Josef considered him an unequal genius.
