Josef Albers: Meditations

Josef Albers: Meditations features thirty paintings from Albers’s Homage to the Square and Variant series, set in the eighteenth-century rooms of the Villa Panza. Nicholas Fox Weber, executive director of the Albers Foundation and curator of the exhibition, selected paintings for the way they “realize Josef’s vision of color interaction to an extent that makes each of them ineffably sublime, with a radiance exuded by his work at its best.” Paintings realized with Albers’s extraordinary ability to weigh color impact and induce three-dimensional motion in a flat surface, viewed in thoughtful combinations but essentially on their own, have unique impact.
