Chloé Levesque
Chloé Levesque lives and works in Paris. She is a textile designer and artist who switches freely between pencils, brushes, textiles and the computer.
When asked how the pandemic impacted her life, Chloé says:
The first lockdown was a great experience for me. I had an exhibition planned for May 2020. So I moved my studio into my home and worked from there. It actually felt like an artist’s residency but in my own home! I was free to spend that short period dedicated to one project, even if the exhibition had to be postponed in the end.
Chloé’s textiles are very much influenced by the colors and smells of her immediate surroundings and the people she meets, so changing environments and experiencing new ways of living have a direct impact on her work.
In September last year, with another pandemic-caused pause, Chloé decided to leave the city and spend time in the south of France to work in her friend’s screen printing studio.
Printing all day, layering colors and patterns inspired by the gorgeous surroundings with my friend was great fun. I absolutely loved it!
When she manages to finally get to the Thread residency, Chloe would like to focus on a project she began last January, inspired by the architecture of Louis Barragan.
I discovered the work of Luis Barragan in books. While I’ve never seen his houses in real life, the colour-dominated pictures inspired me to draw: the walls became coloured shapes on paper and the architectural lines guide my composition. In some drawings you can recognise his houses but sometimes the composition becomes totally abstract and you forget about the architecture. A residency would present a wonderful opportunity to continue working on this series.
In the meantime, Chloé is working on wallpapers for different apartments, two new rugs and drawings for her next exhibition coming up in May this year.
