The Inaugural Nicholas Fox Weber Prize Winners

Aug 17, 2026

The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation is delighted to announce Philippe Apeloig and Mohammed Joha as the joint recipients of the inaugural Nicholas Fox Weber Prize.

The response to the inaugural Prize was extraordinary, with submissions from an international community of artists, writers, curators, filmmakers, designers, and others whose work advances the appreciation of the visual arts. The jury selected Philippe Apeloig and Mohammed Joha in recognition of their imagination, courage, and consummate artistry. Each recipient will receive a prize of $25,000.

The Nicholas Fox Weber Prize grows out of Nick’s lifelong—and continuing—devotion to art and his conviction that art is never separate from life. In that spirit, the Prize honors those whose work deepens our understanding and appreciation of the visual arts through creativity, scholarship, interpretation, advocacy, or innovation.

The remarkable quality of this year’s submissions also prompted the Foundation to recognize the following Honorable Mention recipients, whose work stood out for its passion and integrity:

Alexander Adams
André Azevedo
Jareh Das
Daniel Lind-Ramos
Marie Theres Relin
Ruth Shuman
Abdoulaye Sow
Marta Spanevello
Ann Sutton
Robert Tombs
Celia Vásquez Yui

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Philippe Apeloig and Mohammed Joha, to the Honorable Mention recipients, and to everyone who entrusted us with their work.
